About 34 hours after a painful defeat to Lanús at the Maracanã, Flamengo returned to Ninho do Urubu on Saturday morning and were met by protests. The loss marked a second title missed in less than two months in 2026.

According to Globo.com, around 50 supporters gathered outside with banners aimed at coach Filipe Luís, director of football José Boto and the board. Messages mocked the coach’s methods, branded the hierarchy amateur and accused players of lacking fight despite being paid on time. Police were called to secure the entrance.

Booed at the Maracanã after the Recopa, Filipe Luís is experiencing his toughest spell since taking charge in October 2024. Discomfort is internal as well. His post-match assertion that the team had played very well did not land well, and complaints have arisen over his methods.

He avoids drilling a fixed starting XI, mixes line-ups in sessions, and only confirms the team in the pre-match talk. In the Recopa final, players discovered the XI shortly before the warm-up.

Another complaint concerns communication. Conversations are seen as concentrated among six leaders, Arrascaeta, Bruno Henrique, Danilo, Jorginho, Léo Pereira and Alex Sandro. The relationship with that group is positive and the coach retains dressing-room control, though the atmosphere at the training ground has been strained.

The positions of Filipe Luís and José Boto are intact. Bap consults Boto closely and regards him as a trusted figure in football matters. The president’s relationship with the coach has been strained since last year’s protracted contract renewal.
