Paris Saint-Germain booked their spot in the FIFA Club World Cup knockout stages with a 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders.
While the European champions controlled much of the game against their North American hosts, they had a stroke of luck to thank for their narrow advantage at half-time.
The opener came via a heavy deflection, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia accidentally steering Vitinha’s off-target effort into the net, putting PSG in front somewhat fortuitously.
After the break, full-back Achraf Hakimi doubled the lead, latching onto a clever pass from substitute Bradley Barcola before coolly slotting past the keeper.
The result sees PSG finish top of Group B and sets up a last-16 tie against the runners-up from Group A, which is likely to be either Palmeiras or Inter Miami.
Seattle, needing a three-goal win to stay in contention, bow out of the tournament without a single victory from their three matches—all played at their home ground.
