Paris Saint-Germain pulled off the exploit, going to Anfield and securing their progression to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League at Liverpool’s expense.
PSG secured their qualification on penalties. Ousmane Dembélé scored the only goal of the game in the first half to level the scores on aggregate with the game eventually going to penalties. Gianluigi Donnarumma was ultimately the hero, stopping Darwin Nuñez’s and Curtis Jones’ penalties to send Les Parisiens through.
However, there was one blot on PSG’s copybook. Marquinhos will miss the second leg. Les Parisiens didn’t make a single foul in the first half but the Brazilian made one straight away, in the 46th minute, in the second. The foul on Luis Díaz means that Marquinhos will miss the first leg of the Champions League quarter final.
The quarter-final will see PSG face either Aston Villa or Club Brugge. It is the Premier League side who hold the advantage (3-1) going into the second leg at Villa Park.
