Paris Saint-Germain are close to completing the signing of an unnamed 18-year-old goalkeeper, a move that already prompts questions over the club’s pecking order.

According to L'Équipe, the hierarchy has maintained a policy of avoiding transfer discussions and negotiations until after the Champions League final, yet preparatory work on several dossiers had already been carried out.

One of those is Luis Enrique’s extension, already agreed, with the head coach set to sign in the coming weeks to become the highest paid in Paris, ahead of his players. The deal is expected to run until 2030.

Behind the scenes, Nasser al-Khelaïfi, Luis Campos and Luis Enrique have also moved on recruitment, including the keeper targeted by Campos for weeks. The approach mirrors last year’s capture of Renato Marin, who turns 20 soon, from AS Roma.

The newcomer could be Spanish, and his arrival would land amid flux in the academy. PSG have three goalkeepers out of contract there. Bilal Laurendon, 20, currently with the first-team group, will sign in Azerbaijan, while Arthur Vignaud, 18, and Martin James, 18, remain in talks after being offered professional terms for months.

The move is unlikely to help persuade those youngsters, particularly James, who impressed this season. The hierarchy see Marin as a top-level prospect and do not want to slow him. If Lucas Chevalier were to leave, he could become number two, opening the number three spot and reshaping the logic of this recruitment.
