Paris Saint-Germain were named Team of the Year at the Laureus Awards in Madrid on Monday, becoming the first French club to claim the honour.
According to L'Équipe, the capital club topped a shortlist featuring the England women’s football team, Europe in the Ryder Cup, the India women’s cricket team, McLaren in Formula 1 and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA at the 27th ceremony.
In the Sportsman of the Year category, Carlos Alcaraz prevailed over 2025 Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé. His team-mate Désiré Doué missed out as McLaren driver Lando Norris took Breakthrough of the Year.
Aryna Sabalenka collected Sportswoman of the Year. Lamine Yamal won Young Athlete of the Year, Rory McIlroy took Comeback of the Year and Gabriel Araujo was Para-athlete of the Year.
France’s national football team are past winners of the team prize in 2001 and 2019, the only previous French winners.
