Paris Saint-Germain’s transfer plans may be accelerated. As per a report from L’Équipe, the reigning European champions hold an interest in Barcelona’s Eric Garcia (24). A summer move had been envisaged, but they may now make their move as early as January.
The contract of former Manchester City defender Garcia expires at the end of the current season. PSG are in the market for a versatile defender, similar to Lucas Hernandez, who is capable of playing at centre-back or at left-back.
Garcia falls into that category and has been viewed as a market opportunity. However, it is an opportunity that may be seized earlier than anticipated. Achraf Hakimi sustained a severe ankle sprain on Tuesday night and may be out for around two months. Even if Les Parisiens were considering recruiting in this sector, they may not do so as soon as January. However, if they are to lure the Spaniard to the Parc des Princes, PSG would have to pay a transfer fee. Even if Hakimi does return on schedule, the right-back will still (almost certainly) be absent for the month of January due to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
