PSG Loanee Marco Asensio Reacts After Second-Half Brace for Aston Villa Against Chelsea | OneFootball

In his fourth match with Aston Villa on Saturday, Marco Asensio scored his first goal for the Premier League side, securing a brace with two assists from Marcus Rashford.

For the first goal, Rashford was onside when he received a cross from Matty Cash. He set it up for Asensio, who managed to control it and poke it over the line despite Reece James’ attempt to clear it. The goal was initially ruled out for offside against Rashford, but after a VAR review, it stood.

Asensio’s second goal came after a mistake made by Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen. A weak long-range shot slipped under his body following a short corner, allowing the Spaniard to find the back of the net.

While speaking to the club’s official website, Asensio said he was “so happy” after his Player of the Match performance helped Aston Villa earn a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Villa Park.

“I am so happy,” Asensio said. “The performance from the team was incredible. We knew that today was an important day. We had to win, and we did, so very happy, and we have to continue. On Tuesday, we have another match, and the mentality we have to have, is to win every match.”

Asensio’s second-half brace helped Unai Emery’s side come from behind against the Blues. If the veteran keeps playing like this, Aston Villa could look to keep him permanently or at least spark some interest in the summer transfer window.
