PSG have been ordered to pay their former player, Kylian Mbappé (26), a sum of €61m worth of unpaid wages and bonuses, as reported by AFP. The four judges of Paris’ labor court have all ruled in favour of the Real Madrid centre-forward in the bitter dispute against his former club over unpaid wages and bonuses.
Last month, Mbappé’s lawyers and PSG’s counsel met in a tense hearing and both parties claimed colossal fees in damages from each other. When it became increasingly clear that Mbappé would not renew with PSG and leave on a free in 2024, PSG failed to pay the last three months worth of Mbappé’s salary.
“This ruling confirms that commitments made must be honored. It reaffirms a simple truth: even in the professional football industry, labor law applies to everyone”, Kylian Mbappé’s lawyers said in a statement.
Given that PSG were counter suing Mbappé for €440m, it is expected that the Champions League winners will appeal the ruling, although L’Equipe understands that PSG remains undecided on the matter.
