Paris Saint-Germain have reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa left-back Lucas Digne, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

PSG have already informed Villa that they will pay Digne’s release clause, reportedly less than €10 million (£8.5m at current rates).

The deal is likely to be concluded after the 2026 World Cup, with Digne currently representing France at the tournament.

The 32-year-old is set to become the second high-profile departure from Villa this summer, with Youri Tielemans also on the verge of completing a move to Manchester United.

Digne could be a smart signing for PSG

PSG are looking to sign a left-back to provide cover for Nuno Mendes. Mendes’ struggles with his fitness last season have heightened the need to strengthen that position.

Lucas Hernandez is the natural back-up to Mendes, but the Frenchman has failed to impress, prompting PSG to look for another left-back.

Digne represents an upgrade on Hernandez, potentially allowing manager Luis Enrique to give Mendes more rest next season.

The France international helped Villa finish fourth in the Premier League last season and win the UEFA Europa League.

Digne has been a mainstay in the Villans’ defence since he arrived from Everton in 2022. He has featured in 182 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and providing 24 assists.

He has also established himself as France’s first-choice left-back, overtaking Theo Hernandez in the pecking order.

Digne is a reliable left-back who is adept at crossing, passing, and set-piece delivery. He also has a strong defensive awareness, making him a well-rounded full-back.

Before joining Barcelona in 2016, the former Everton defender spent three seasons at PSG, winning multiple domestic honours.
