PSG vs Arsenal: Preview, prediction, team news and lineups

Arsenal have drawn both previous visits to Paris, losing both of their last two visits to France. PSG have lost just one of their last five home games against English opposition.

After last Tuesday's first leg in North London, it's Paris Saint-Germain who are in pole position to be in Munich on 31 May. A week ago, the only goal of the night came inside four minutes, when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's pull-back was lashed in off the post by Ousmane Dembélé, rather silencing all the Gooners in attendance.

Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard in particular went close to equalising, but 1-0 to PSG it finished, leaving Arsenal with a mountain to climb as they head to the French capital.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Arsenal preview

This is the fourth time in just six seasons that Paris Saint-Germain have reached the Champions League semi-finals, now on the cusp of just their second final, beaten by Bayern Munich behind-closed-doors in 2020.

Les Rouge-et-Bleu have already beaten Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa in this year's competition, now seeking to complete an English clean sweep. Having secured the Ligue 1 title weeks ago, Luis Enrique made ten changes for Saturday's trip to Strasbourg, so he won't have been to concerned by the fact his team were beaten 2-1 at Stade de la Meinau.

For PSG, this trophy remains their ultimate holy grail, so will they complete the job at Parc des Princes?

As for Arsenal, they too have only featured in one Champions League Final to date, this coming in Paris back in 2006, and their hopes of another appear to be slipping away. The Gunners put nine past PSV Eindhoven in the last 16, before demolishing Real Madrid 5-1 in the quarters, but will this prove to be a bridge too far?

On Saturday, Mikel Arteta's team suffered just a fourth Premier League defeat of the season, beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth at home, despite leading at half time through Declan Rice. So, having won just three of their last ten in the league, they're in danger of finishing third, or perhaps even lower.

Nevertheless, no one will be overly bothered about their recent league form if they're able to pull off a famous comeback, so will this be an historic night, or a gut-wrenching disappointment?

Paris Saint-Germain team news

As mentioned, Luis Enrique made wholesale changes at the weekend, with João Neves the only player to keep his place in Strasbourg, and even he was hooked on the hour mark. So, Lucho would like to revert back to the first leg lineup, but an enforced change is likely.

Tuesday's match-winner Ousmane Dembélé was later taken off due to a hamstring injury, making him a doubt, which is a massive blow considering he's scored 28 goals in his last 28 outings. So, Bradley Barcola will come into the attack, but it's as yet unknown whether he, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia or Désiré Doué will be the one deployed centrally.

Paris Saint-Germain predicted lineup vs Arsenal: (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; João Neves, Vitinha, Fabián; Doué, Kvaratskhelia, Barcola.

Paris Saint-Germain player to watch vs Arsenal

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was excellent in North London last week, so can he add to his four goals for les Parisiens, two of which have come in home Champions League wins?

Arsenal team news

In contrast to his compatriot, Mikel Arteta picked his strongest available lineup at the weekend, which didn't have the desired impact as they were also beaten 2-1. First and foremost, Gabriel, Riccardo Calafiori, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jorginho, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus all remain sidelined.

Thomas Partey will return, having been suspended last Tuesday, which will allow Declan Rice to move further forward, with Mikel Merino leading the line and Leandro Trossard back on the bench.

The only question mark surrounds Jurriën Timber, who was taken off towards the end of the first leg, before not featuring on the bench on Saturday, but the Dutchman is expected to be fit to start.

Bukayo Saka, who scored during the 2-0 victory over PSG in October, will once again be Arsenal's main goal threat, seeking to add to his nine Champions League goals.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Arsenal prediction

We cannot see Arsenal pulling off a remontada in Paris, backing PSG to get the job done at Parc des Princes, once again proving to be too strong for the Gunners: Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 Arsenal.
