Milan and USMNT star Christian Pulisic has recently opened up about his personal goals in San Siro, believing that he is in or nearing his prime years, his recent injury set-back and the pressure of representing a top club at the highest level: ‘We care so much’.

Pulisic: Milan goals, overcoming injury and entering his prime

The Rossoneri forward sat down for an in-depth interview with Kate Scott and CBS Sports, during which he discussed his season so far with Milan and the USA national team.

Pulisic was in red-hot form at the start of the 2025-26 campaign, netting four goals and providing two assists from his first five Serie A matches of the season. He hasn’t scored in the league since then, but only Hakan Calhanoglu and Riccardo Orsolini sit above him in the Serie A top scorer charts as things stand.

Pulisic ended up missing just shy of a month’s worth of action after a recent injury set-back, but he insists that he is grateful that the lay-off was only for a couple of weeks and not more severe.

“As a footballer, the times when you’re injured and can’t play at the weekend are the worst. But now I’m back fully with the team and feeling much better,” Pulisic said.

“Things were going so well at the beginning of the season. It seems to happen that way. Honestly, I trust in God’s timing, I trust that it’s the best thing for me. To be honest, it’s not the worst thing ever, I was out for a couple of weeks and now I’m back. I’m lucky it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.”

Pulisic was asked whether, at the age of 27, he is now in the prime years of his career.

He replied: “I’d definitely say I’m at a good age in my career. I feel at my physical best and I feel I’ve learned a lot, I’m in a really good place.

“I always like to say I hope my prime is the next year because that’s always my goal. If this is my prime, I want to enjoy it, but there’s always places to get better. I definitely feel that I’m playing some of my best football at the moment.”

Pulisic was asked if Milan aim to win the Serie A title, and also, if they fail to do so, whether that would be classed as a major disappointment.

“That’s our goal for sure. I don’t like to look at it in that way, ‘how’s it going to be if we don’t win it’. We’re going to do our best and I think we can judge ourselves off the performances, how we go from game to game and how we go through the season,” he replied.

“There have been times where we haven’t won anything and I feel like we’ve done a lot of great things, so it’s not something to be ashamed of, but absolutely, when you get that win, there’s nothing like it.”

And on his personal goals for the season, Pulisic said: “It’s probably more of a private thing, which it is for me, I would never share what my exact personal goals are.

“There’s no need, there’s enough pressure on us, there’s no need to put any added pressure on. People don’t realise the pressure we put on ourselves. I demand so much out of myself, I’m sure all the top professionals do.

“(Supporters) don’t think that we don’t care, but they probably think we don’t care as much as they do and it’s just not true, we care so much.

“I set goals for myself and it’s not necessarily ‘I want to score this many goals’, it’s just how to impact the team in certain ways, that’s how I look at it.”
