On his Bundesliga debut, Union Berlin goalkeeper Matheo Raab resisted a fierce late push from Freiburg and played through a painful hand problem to protect a slender lead. According to BuLi News, a final save in the closing minutes secured all three points.

He produced a string of vital stops and, after hurting his hand late on, refused to come off. His intervention preserved Union's advantage.

Afterwards, Raab said the injury did not look good and that the same hand had troubled him before. He felt extreme pain but wanted to see out the last minutes. He reflected with pride on the late stop and said he was delighted with his Bundesliga debut.

Head coach Steffen Baumgart praised his keeper's resilience, noting a career with setbacks and his value whether number two or number one. He said Raab's decision to continue while injured underlined his character and came with some outstanding saves.

Baumgart called him the matchwinner. It was a standout start for Union's goalkeeper, pain and all.
