Valencia’s Nou Mestalla is edging back towards hosting matches at the 2030 World Cup co-hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, despite failing the first cut over serious non-compliance by Valencia CF and the City Council. It is still not an official venue, as it was not among the 11 stadiums the RFEF submitted to FIFA.

RFEF president Rafael Louzán said: “Valencia is going to have the most modern stadium in Spanish football for that World Cup, a 70,044-seater. We follow the works via social media and via the club.” He told El Larguero on Cadena Ser.

“It did not go in at the time because of problems between the stadium owner, Peter Lim, and the City Council, but those problems have been solved and FIFA has the capacity to decide. There should not be many doubts.”

“The mayor of Vigo is interested and they were not in the 11 candidates because they were not chosen. They have to finish the stadium, which will have 30,000, and 43,000 are required, so they will have to add 13,000. There could be two cities in contention, Valencia and Vigo.”

“Madrid, Barcelona and Casablanca are the options. The difference of 25,000 in capacity carries weight in terms of revenue and options for fans.”
