Ralston points to Celtic’s title-winning experience as crucial factor

Anthony Ralston reckons that Celtic’s title winning experience will give them the edge in the five post split round of fixtures that will determine the destination of the Scottish Premiership title this season…

“This has been my club since I was a boy so I am never going to let anyone down. I’m going to keep working and be ready whenever called upon,” Anthony Ralston

All three contenders collected the three points at the weekend with Celtic settling for a 1-0 win over St Mirren, Hearts getting the benefit of huge error from the match officials against Motherwell to turn the game in their favour and the Rangers fighting back to win at Falkirk.

There are certain to be more controversies to come as the press mounts on all three teams and the Scotland defender believes that the course and distance experience of delivering silverware will help see Celtic through to collect 14th title in 15 seasons.

“I’m not within the walls of other squads or in the other teams that are involved but I am within our walls and within our changing room and I know we have a strong mentality,’” Anthony Ralston said at the weekend to the media as reported by Daily Mail.

“We have a great captain in Callum McGregor who has an elite mentality and he has shown that over the years.

“He’s the one who leads us and we have boys who are behind him and we are all moving towards the same goal as a collective,” Ralston stated. “That is just about honesty and it shows in games, like against St Mirren, where we had to grind out a 1-0 win.

“We have a great squad in terms of having experience, not just myself, we have Cal, James Forrest and also Liam Scales who has been terrific over the last couple of years.

“We now have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who is very experienced in terms of his own career, so we have a very experienced group and we need to use that as much as we can. We need to help the other boys who have not been in this scenario along the way and right to the finish.”

Ralston has this season found himself dropping down the pecking order as three managers have selected the Celtic sides with the likes of Alistiar Johnston, Julián Araujo all getting the nod ahead of Tony Ralston this season.

But as ever Ralston has gone about his business and made sure that he’s ready when required and with the other three right backs all sitting watching from just behind the Directors Box on Saturday, each with their own injury concerns.

So Anthony Ralston was in the Celtic team and looks like staying there for the closing stages, the business end of the season, to do his bit to get the title over the line for Martin O’Neill and the club.

“Nobody would say they are satisfied when they are not playing,” Ralston said. “But this has been my club since I was a boy so I am never going to let anyone down. I’m going to keep working and be ready whenever called upon.”

Next up for Celtic is the Scottish Cup semifinal against St Mirren at Hampden on Sunday with Falkirk playing Neil Lennon’s Dunfermline on Saturday at the National stadium in the other semifinal.
