Rangers fans are always looking for the slightest hint of transfer activity and this week they might just have gone into overdrive. A Porsche sighting in Glasgow caused a bit of a frenzy with the number plate reading ‘Vardy’ and it did not take long for social media to run wild. As ever with these things there are lots of questions and very few solid answers but that has not stopped the speculation from snowballing. The Ibrox support love a good transfer mystery and this one has all the makings of a classic.

Naturally Jamie Vardy’s name was immediately trending in Rangers circles with fans genuinely wondering if the Leicester City legend could be making a sensational switch to Ibrox. It is not the first time Vardy has been linked to Rangers either. Reports in Ibrox Noise suggest a strong fan desire for the striker to arrive, and Sky Sports-linked stories have only fanned the flames further.

But there is a dose of realism in all this. Sources close to Vardy say he does not even own a Porsche, and certainly not one with that registration. In fact it is claimed his private plate is totally different and registered to a different make of car altogether. So unless there is a decoy in operation or someone pulling a fast one this Porsche was likely nothing more than a lookalike or a tribute by a fan. Still, the buzz it caused shows just how much Rangers fans are dreaming of a big name summer signing.

It is not without basis either. Jamie Vardy to Rangers has had some weight to it with both Ally McCoist and Paul Gascoigne speaking positively about the idea. Vardy’s own contract situation at Leicester means it is not completely out of the question for him to consider one last big move before retirement.
