Raniele has become a key figure for Corinthians this season, with Fernando Diniz’s approach handing the midfielder greater attacking licence. According to Meu Timao, his influence has grown markedly since Diniz took charge.
That growth was clear on Sunday, when he scored the first goal in the 3-2 win over São Paulo in the Campeonato Brasileiro. He now has two under Diniz, joint second top with Jesse Lingard, behind Gustavo Henrique on three.
After the derby, he explained that Diniz’s emphasis on balance and team-mates’ cover lets him attack more often. When he checks that Breno, Carrillo or André are set behind him, he feels able to arrive in the box.
He added that staff repeatedly stress rebounds and second balls. Diniz encourages having two or three players ready to contest them and, crucially, never none. Raniele said he is happy to contribute to goals and to be viewed as an attacking option.
Attention now turns to the Copa do Brasil. Corinthians host Barra of Santa Catarina at Neo Química Arena on Thursday at 19:30 in the second leg of the fifth phase. They lead the tie 1-0 after the first meeting.
