Claudio Ranieri denied that Roma have already zeroed in on their next coach after the links to Carlo Ancelotti resurfaced again and voiced his satisfaction with how the January window has gone in an interview with Mediaset before colliding with Milan in the Coppa Italia’s Round of 8.
“Never give up was my motto as a player, and I try to convey it to the squad. I can accept losing, but only after giving our whole. The Rossoneri haven’t been defeated at home in three months. We’ll face a team full of talents and champions. We won’t go to San Siro on a trip but eager to do well and advance.”
Ranieri dished on the ongoing coaching search at Roma.
“I’m not even involved because I’m super focused on what we’re doing now. Then, we’ll compile a list of names and choose the most suitable in our minds. We’ll wait for the season to end to announce it. The rumors have never come from us.”
Ranieri addressed the recent Roma additions.
“I give the window a good grade because we couldn’t make a lot of moves. The director found quality players, and I okayed them. We needed to respect some economic parameters, so we did fine relative to that. We couldn’t afford to spend and then perhaps not qualify for a European competition anyway. I’m super convinced by one of the two signings, while the other joined on loan, is a Danish international, and he’s a determined man-marker. We’ll be able to evaluate him for five months.”
Roma onboarded Victor Nelsson from Galatasaray, Lucas Gourna-Douath on loan from RB Salzburg, and Anass Salah-Eddine on deadline day, investing €8M to purchase the latter from Twente.
