Raphael Guerreiro has confirmed he will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, and is being linked with Benfica. Record reports that the France-born Portugal international is open to joining the club he fervently supports, although there has been no confirmation of interest from the Lisbon side.
He is said to view a move to Portuguese football as an ideal next step, having previously indicated he would like to play in the league.
Guerreiro is departing after three seasons in Munich, and his profile is understood to appeal to some within Benfica’s hierarchy, both on the board and in the football department.
Even if his qualities appeal to José Mourinho, only Rui Costa will know whether the club intend to advance with a move.
Any agreement would require a financial concession from Guerreiro, as his current Bayern salary sits well above Benfica’s means.
