Borussia Dortmund played Barcelona a visit at Montjuic on Wednesday night in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal matchup.

The Catalans dominated the game from the opening whistle and looked like the firm favorites to take a big lead into the second leg. However, the opening goal took its course and they had to work hard.

Raphinha tapped in a wonderful Pau Cubarsi effort for the opener on the night while Robert Lewandowski doubled the lead just after half-time.

The two-goal cushion did not stop them, however, and the Pole soon had his second.

Lamine Yamal then added the cherry on the cake with a lovely finish and completed a total rout of the visitors.

Barça Universal brings you the player ratings from Barcelona 4-0 Borussia Dortmund.

Wojciech Szczesny: 7.5

The Polish goalkeeper did not have a whole lot to do in between the sticks barring a few routine saves in the first half. Was good with his decision-making and distribution.

Made a big save in the 83rd minute to deny Dortmund their first.

Alejandro Balde: 7

Alejandro Balde did not have much defensive work on the night and thus played higher than the rest of the defense. Connected well with Raphinha and led the attack on the flank.

His pace, however, was often not a match for the likes of Jamie Gittens and Julian Ryerson and he thus did not get past the Dortmund defenders as often as he would have hoped.

Inigo Martinez: 8.5

The Spanish veteran was disciplined and clinical with his defensive actions on the night and did well to keep Dortmund’s dynamic attack at bay.

Created the team’s opening goal with a great header towards his teammates in front of Dortmund’s goal and thus helped Barcelona open the scoring.

Pau Cubarsi: 8.5

The rightful scorer of Barcelona’s opening goal against Dortmund, Cubarsi did extremely well to play the ball with a deft touch past the Dortmund goalkeeper. Was unlucky to not have it to his name.

That apart, the teenage star was again on point and did well defensively. Misplayed a clearance or two but did not put any foot wrong apart from that.

Jules Kounde: 8

Kounde looked fresher than ever, and ironically so given that the player has barely had any rest this season.

Was spirited in defense and pressed with his life on Barcelona’s right wing, winning the ball back early and playing Yamal through. His attacking runs, as always, were well-timed.

Pedri: 8.5

Pedri silently pulled the strings for Barcelona in the Champions League quarterfinal and dictated the tempo of the game as he usually does.

Did not pull off anything flamboyant, but the fact that Barcelona dominated the game from start to finish in itself is a testament to his great performance.

Frenkie de Jong: 8.5

The Dutch star led Barcelona on the field and was solid in his assigned duties, especially defensively.

Helped Barcelona dominate the middle of the park alongside Pedri and even aided in progressing the ball forward on quick transitions.

Fermin Lopez: 8.5

The La Masia star was superb against Nico Kovac’s men as he thrived in the spaces between Dortmund’s defense and midfield and created chaos with his runs.

Could have got into more attacking and goalscoring positions himself but often looked to just add on to the buildup and play his teammates through.

Provided a great assist for Lewandowski’s second and should have had a goal or two of his own.

Lamine Yamal: 9.5

By far Barcelona’s most creative player on the night, Yamal took his game to the next level against the German opposition as he created chances with ease.

Showed no signs of fatigue and split open Dortmund’s defense twice in the opening ten minutes.

Was unlucky to not earn any assist for his creativity and vision but was the creator-in-chief of the second goal on the night.

Once again opened up the defense for Barcelona’s third goal with a sensational pre-assist and finally earned his goal with a sensational finish in the 77th minute.

Raphinha: 9.5

The Brazilian was lively down the left flank and did well to lead the team on counterattacks and get into scoring positions. However, his usual clinical finishing in front of goal was simply missing.

Was a little selfish with the goal as he robbed Cubarsi of a special moment, yet it may well have been his desperation to just ensure that the ball was going into the back of the net.

Played a great assist to Lewandowski’s and Yamal’s goals in the second half.

Robert Lewandowski: 9.5

A special brace against his former club. (Photo by Pedro Salado/Getty Images)

The Polish striker was the one Barcelona player who did not appear to be on song last night as he struggled to get into positions and capitalise on the few chances he earned.

Looked sluggish in the first half but came back to score a simple goal just minutes after the restart of action in the second half.

Returned to his element and completed his brace with a killer finish and even began the play for Barcelona’s fourth.
