Marcus Rashford’s time at Manchester United is all but over. The Mancunian lad, who joined the club as a seven year old, was once considered the next big thing to emerge out of Carrington.

Rashford enjoyed great success under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag, but fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim.

He was loaned out to Aston Villa at the start of this year, and spent the second half of last season at Villa Park. With the Red Devils focusing on a complete overhaul of their attack over the summer, the 27-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements.

Rashford subsequently moved to Barcelona on a season-long loan, and the Catalans also have an option to sign him permanently for €30 million at the end of this campaign.

An impressive start in Spain

Rashford has hit the ground running following his move to Camp Nou. The Englishman has already scored two goals and set up two more from six games in all competitions.

United will be pleased with his efforts, as it could convince Barcelona to take up the option to sign him permanently next summer. Meanwhile, Rashford’s form could also ignite a bidding war for his signature next year, with recent reports suggesting that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are also eyeing him with interest.

While the player has three years left in his deal with United, he is no longer part of Amorim’s plans, and the Red Devils are eager to move him on.

It has also been suggested that the La Liga champions could consider signing him permanently at the turn of the year. However, it now appears that those reports may not be true.

Robert Lewandowski’s replacement at Camp Nou

Barcelona are pleased with Rashford’s performances so far and are delighted at his rapid integration into Hansi Flick’s team. Contrary to reports, there is no difference in the player’s valuation between the Catalans and United.

However, according to Sky Sports, the Blaugrana are not considering the option of signing him permanently just yet.

The Spanish champions remain under financial distress, and cannot indulge in such discussions at this moment due to the finances involved. Barcelona are covering Rashford’s entire wages in the loan deal, which is another hurdle to a permanent stay.

The Englishman is one of the highest earners in LaLiga, and the Catalans could struggle to accommodate his transfer fee as well as his salary in their books in 2026. While the player is keen to make his stay permanent, long-term planning will be required for the move to materialise.

Interestingly, Barcelona are likely to bid adieu to Robert Lewandowski next summer, who recently turned 37 and is in the final year of his contract. Rashford’s ability to play as a No. 9 also makes him a candidate to replace the legendary Pole at Camp Nou.

However, if the Catalans plan to sign a proven striker instead next summer, the Englishman’s future could come under further scrutiny, as the club may not have the finances to accommodate both deals.
