Marcus Rashford and his representatives will increase efforts to secure a transfer away from Manchester United this week.
Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa after being informed he did not feature in Ruben Amorim’s plans.
That stance has not changed despite a productive loan spell at Villa Park and the forward’s number ten shirt has been reassigned to new signing Matheus Cunha.
Aston Villa opted against signing Rashford on a permanent basis for £40m and the 27-year-old’s future remains unclear as Manchester United prepare to return for pre-season. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a fresh round of talks to explore his options will take place in the coming days.
Rashford is understood to favour a move away from the Premier League with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich linked. Each of those sides could step up their interest after disappointment in the race to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club.
Williams turned down a transfer away from the Spanish side in favour of signing a new 10-year contract. The decision was labelled as ‘surprise’ with the Spain international having appeared close to a transfer to Barcelona.
Rashford is keen to secure regular first-team football as he looks to make the England squad for next summer’s World Cup.
He was included as part of Thomas Tuchel’s first squad in March, but missed the June fixtures after injury impacted his end to the campaign.
Manchester United want a £40m fee for the forward but may be forced to consider alternative proposals as the Red Devils look to remove Rashford from the wage bill.
