Napoli are advancing in talks with Manchester United to secure a deal for striker Rasmus Hojlund, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

In the wake of Romelu Lukaku’s recent injury, Napoli have opened talks with Man United as they look to bolster their centre-forward options after the departure of Giacomo Raspadori to Atletico Madrid.

Hojlund joined from Atalanta in 2023 but has struggled to deliver consistently, scoring only 10 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions last season.

With the recent arrival of Benjamin Sesko at Old Trafford, Hojlund has fallen further down the pecking order, prompting both the player and club to seek a solution.

Napoli’s interest offers a return to Italy for Hojlund, where he had previously impressed and developed his reputation at Atalanta.

The Serie A champions are negotiating a loan deal with an obligation to buy for a package worth around £40 million.

Despite his initial preference to stay at United, Hojlund is warming up to the idea of a move away, having been left out of the matchday squad for consecutive matches.

Hojlund will be hoping for a renaissance at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, like former United teammate Scott McTominay.

He was voted Serie A Player of the Year after starring for Napoli en route to domestic glory last season.

While United are still awaiting their first league win of the season following Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Fulham, Napoli kicked off their title defence with a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo on Saturday.
