Manchester City have ‘what it takes’ to win ‘as many trophies as possible’ this season, according to creative star Rayan Cherki.
The French playmaker has enjoyed a fast integration into Pep Guardiola’s squad, with performances underlining why City were keen to add such a creative profile capable of operating between the lines.
With the Premier League title race tightening and Arsenal continuing to apply pressure at the summit, margins are expected to be fine across all competitions in the months ahead until the very end of the campaign.
Cherki’s influence has already been felt in decisive moments, most notably with his late winner away at Nottingham Forest – a result that kept Manchester City firmly in the hunt at the top of the table. That strike, arriving amid a congested run of fixtures and mounting injury concerns elsewhere, reinforced the growing trust Guardiola has placed in the 21-year-old.
Beyond individual moments, there is a sense that cohesion is beginning to sharpen at a crucial point. With Rodri returning, key players navigating fitness issues, and a demanding schedule, the emphasis has been on collective resilience and attacking efficiency.
Speaking to ManCity.com in a recent interview, Rayan Cherki spoke of his new-found connection with superstar striker Erling Haaland – inspired by a strong relationship between the pair off the pitch.
“I think he quickly saw that I’m someone who likes to laugh, who likes to have a good time, and I think he’s the same,” said the former Lyon midfielder.
“So, I think that when two people are on the same wavelength, it’s bound to work out. And if they hit it off the pitch, they’re bound to hit it on it, and we’re very happy with that relationship.”
But what can the duo contribute to this season in the way of trophy successes?
“I think we [Manchester City] have what it takes to win as many matches as possible, to win as many trophies as possible,” said Cherki.
“We know that every match is different. Every match is a challenge. But we’re ready. We have a huge amount of quality to win as many matches as possible. We approach each match differently, but we’ve got so much talent and so much strength in depth.”
Looking ahead, Manchester City face a defining stretch that includes Premier League clashes, domestic cup commitments, and crucial European ties, with Arsenal’s consistency ensuring there is little room for error.
Pep Guardiola’s rotation and management of returning players will likely be decisive in sustaining momentum on multiple fronts. And for Cherki personally, continued chemistry with Haaland and greater responsibility in high-stakes matches could shape both City’s silverware prospects and his own standing within the squad.
If recent weeks are any indication, the young playmaker is intent on playing a central role as Manchester City chase major trophies once again.
