Interestingly enough, takeaways from RB Leipzig’s 2-2 Bundesliga draw against Heidenheim didn’t exactly conform to the result. Heidenheim rushed out to a 2-0 lead at the Red Bull Arena. Marco Rose’s German Red Bulls stormed back to claim the point. Despite this, RB captain Willi Orban found himself dissatisfied.

“Of course we’re disappointed that we didn’t make it,” Orban told DAZN afterwards. “With all due respect, you have to get three points at home against Heidenheim.

One needs solutions in the final third,” Orban continued. “We didn’t create enough chances. We had few moments going forward. I can’t even remember a hundred percent chance to be honest. “We have to start the game better. The start was too passive. That was not good enough today.

Rose concurred.

We couldn’t win and that’s extremely unsatisfactory,” Rose remarked at the post match press conference. “The result is unsatisfactory and the way it came about is unsatisfactory. We just want more.

For some reason, FCH head coach Frank Schmidt cast aside his usual cynicism and declared himself pleased with the point. Heidenheim captain Patrick Mainka also appeared happy that – despite the fact that the team squandered the lead – something helpful for the relegation race was salvaged.

We were highly motivated, highly focused and effective at the start,” Schmidt remarked at his presser. “We didn’t get the point for free, we worked hard for it. I’m very happy with my team’s performance.

We can build on this performance and now we have to take ‘this approach’ with us,” Schmidt concluded.

Today we can be really proud,” Mainka told DAZN. “We started off actively. We allowed very little [against Leipzig’s attack] toward the end with Leipzig having little chances. We threw everything into [defending] at the back and that’s what we did today.

In the end it’s only a point and we still need a lot [more of them],” Mainka concluded. “But I’m proud of every single point.
