RB Leipzig have confirmed the early termination of Timo Werner’s expiring contract to enable his move to MLS side San Jose Earthquakes. The club said in a statement that the agreement allows the former Germany international to start a new chapter abroad.

Werner departs as Leipzig’s all-time leading scorer with 113 goals. The Bundesliga club bid farewell to a forward closely linked with their rise.

Werner described Leipzig as more than a stop in his career, recalling special matches and emotions. He thanked his team-mates, coaches, staff and, above all, the fans.

The club’s farewell messaging cast him as central to their first notable Bundesliga seasons, a player who became a Germany international there and made his Champions League debut with Leipzig. It also highlighted the 2023 DFB Pokal and 2023 DFL Supercup triumphs.
