RB Leipzig are working on a deal to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Rocco Reitz. According to Get German Football News, the 23-year-old has a €25-28m release clause.

Following Kevin Kampl’s retirement, Leipzig have been searching for a midfield replacement, and Reitz is considered their ideal option. Talks are under way with the captain over a summer move.

Leipzig do not want to meet the clause and will attempt to negotiate a lower fee. The Bundesliga side face competition from Brighton, and Reitz is not their only target.

Celtic’s Arne Engels, Southampton’s Caspar Jander, formerly of Nürnberg, and Hertha Berlin’s Kennet Eichhorn are also under consideration.

Reitz came through the Gladbach academy and now wears the armband at Borussia Park. Leipzig can offer European football, whereas Gladbach are a long way from it.
