RB Leipzig ‘to conclude’ €21m deal for Reims centre-back Abdoul Koné

Le Parisien and Belgian transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri report that RB Leipzig are close to signing Stade Reims centre-back Abdoul Koné in a €21m package including bonuses.

Tavolieri adds that the 20-year-old France U21 international will not move immediately, instead set to join from the summer on a contract running to 2031.

Koné helped Reims achieve promotion from Ligue 2.

L’Equipé previously reported that Bayer Leverkusen were also interested, though Leipzig appear to have won the race.

As the transfer is scheduled for after the season, formal confirmation may take time.

Leipzig may still seek short-term cover at centre-back, with Castello Lukeba and Lukas Klostermann struggling with injury and only Willi Orban and El Chadaille Bitshiabu currently fit.
