RB Leipzig were able to pick up three more vital points in the race for Champions League football, winning 3-1 at home against 1. FC Union Berlin on Bundesliga matchday 31. Not only was it RBL's fifth straight win, but it also took Ole Werner's side up into third place.

Finkgräfe nets debut goal, Rômulo back on target

RBL put their opponents under pressure early on, with chances for Christoph Baumgartner (7') and Rômulo (9'). The hosts were able to break the deadlock in the 22nd minute, as Max Finkgräfe placed a shot into the back of the Union goal - his maiden strike for RBL. Just three minutes later, Rômulo stole the ball off an FCU defender and rounded the goalkeeper, before coolly doubling their advantage.

Strong saves from Vandevoordt - Baku makes it three

Union could count themselves lucky to not be trailing by more at half-time, as the hosts were unlucky to hit the woodwork on three occasions. Maarten Vandevoordt also pulled off a strong save to deny former RBL man Oliver Burke on a breakaway.

RBL kept up the pressure even after the change of ends, with Ridle Baku scoring to make it 3-0 in the 62nd minute. The Berliners were able to get one back through Danilho Doekhi in the 78th minute, but the game was already out of reach.
