Real Betis are the latest club to move for Sunderland striker Eliezer Mayenda, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that Stade Rennais and FC Porto are still pushing and now face competition from the La Liga side.
Mayenda is increasingly likely to leave this summer as he pursues regular senior football, which currently appears unlikely at the Stadium of Light given Brian Brobbey’s recent form. Sunderland are said to be sympathetic to his wishes and would sanction an exit if the terms are right.
With interest building, Sunderland could make a significant profit on the initial fee paid to sign him from Sochaux in summer 2023, although that agreement included performance clauses and a sell-on.
Reports in Portugal have downplayed claims that Porto were close to a deal earlier this week, though it is thought Sunderland are aware of interest from the Primeira Liga champions.
Betis, managed by Manuel Pellegrini, finished fifth in La Liga last season and will play in the Champions League league phase next season.
A loan has not been ruled out, but Mayenda is thought to prefer a permanent move at this stage.
