It was a night of mixed emotions at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium, as Real Madrid, full of intent and momentum, were held to a 1-1 draw by a resolute Paris FC side.
The home team controlled much of this match, but the visitors struck early and held firm, before Madrid answered late to salvage a point.
The match started briskly under the lights at Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium, with Real Madrid finding their rhythm in a rather short period. Naomie Feller and Linda Caicedo looked lively on the wings, stretching the Paris defence and setting an early tempo that had the home fans on their feet.
Despite Madrid’s strong start, it was Paris FC who struck first. In the 41st minute, a rare lapse in Madrid’s back line saw a foul inside the box, and Lorena Azzaro calmly converted from the penalty spot to silence the crowd and give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Madrid pressed for a response, Alba Redondo forcing an excellent block from Mylène Chavas before half-time, but the French side held strong to take their lead to half-time.
The second half saw Madrid up the ante as Paris FC, holding their lead, sat slightly deeper, looking to counter, but Madrid’s game control increased. They created several chances and continuous pressure finally reaped its reward with the equalizer in stoppage time as Caroline Weir struck in the 98th minute to level the match at 1-1.
Paris nearly held on for the win, but Madrid’s late surge paid dividends in the nick of time. The draw left both sides with something: Madrid avoided defeat, while Paris secured a point away from home.
