In a recent report, The Sun stated that Real Madrid are big admirers of Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. It has been revealed that Los Blancos could face competition in the form of Bayern Munich and Liverpool in the race to land the English midfield ace.
Wharton enjoyed a solid campaign at the London club as he put in a string of impressive performances for them at the centre of the park. The 21-year-old picked up a couple of assists in 27 matches for the Eagles last season in all competitions.
The English talent anchored the midfield well and deserves credit for making 34 tackles, 11 blocks and 20 interceptions in Premier League football. He even distributed the ball well after completing 75.6% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).
Wharton’s current contract at Selhurst Park will run out in the summer of 2029. Hence, it won’t be easy for Real Madrid to snap him up on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Wharton is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
The English sensation can even create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third. He mainly functions as a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder or in the number ten position if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect Wharton to add more bite and steel to Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso’s midfield. At 21, the future looks quite promising for the English youngster as long as he continues to improve with each season.
However, it remains to be seen whether Wharton can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting him, so Los Blancos would be wise to go all out to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium before the end of this summer transfer window.
