At a time when Real Madrid Castilla stars are moving out in masses, Los Blancos appear to have finally identified a player whose value is more to them than just the transfer fee that is projected. The name in question is none other than Diego Aguado.

As relayed by MARCA in a recent report, the young defender attracted interest from across the globe this summer, and rightfully so given that he is one of the club academy’s top projected talents.

Xabi Alonso, however, has blocked a departure for Aguado this summer, sending out a strong and loud message not only in appreciation of his talent but as a precursor to prominence with the first team.

Aguado will stay in Castilla

As confirmed by the Spanish outlet, clubs including Borussia Dortmund, Parma and others enquired and showed serious interest in acquiring Aguado this summer. They were even willing to shell out a sum of at least €3 million for the same.

The Real Madrid manager, however, sees him as a strategic player and thus prioritises his availability for first-team duty.

Aguado will thus stay with the Castilla side this season and continue to participate in first-team training with the aim of securing regular minutes.

The young defender is capable of playing both centrally and on the left and thus has valuable versatility as a backup player.

With Real Madrid’s exit operations still ambiguous and a defender possibly on his way out, keeping the young talent will provide Alonso and Co. with some stability and security.

The 18-year-old made his debut for the first team in Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey win over Deportiva Minera earlier this year and has done enough to impress Alonso in his first days as the new manager. It is safe to say that he is on the right track.
