Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa called an impromptu team meeting on Sunday, asking the players for commitment and professionalism for the remainder of the season.
According to The Athletic, the Spanish boss also emphasised about the importance of unity beyond the end of this season.
The club’s captain Dani Carvajal also spoke at the meeting, echoing his manager’s sentiment.
Carvajal’s words were particularly appreciated given the right-back has been limited to just eight La Liga starts this season due to injury issues.
Real have endured an awful 2025-26 campaign under Arbeloa.
They recently crashed out of the Champions League after losing their quarter-final tie 6-4 on aggregate to Bayern Munich.
Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Los Blancos made a sensational comeback at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, scoring three goals in a breathless first half.
But Bayern ultimately came out on top following late goals from Luis Diaz and Michael Olise.
Madrid are set to end the season without a major trophy, as they are also nine points adrift of La Liga leaders Barcelona with seven games remaining.
The club’s hierarchy will reportedly part company with Arbeloa, but the Spaniard will likely see out the season.
They are said to be considering appointing Jose Mourinho, who managed the European giants between 2010 and 2013.
The Portuguese is currently the head coach of Benfica, but his contract contains a clause that would allow him to join Madrid.
