Real Madrid are confident about Kylian Mbappe’s availability for their Champions League round of 16 first leg clash with Manchester City next Wednesday, according to Spanish outlet as.

Mbappe has missed the last two games due to injury, but there have been conflicting reports from his camp and Madrid’s on the extent of his injury.

Madrid released a statement on Monday revealing that Mbappe had suffered a ‘sprain in the left knee‘.

However, the Frenchman’s camp revealed a more worrying diagnosis, claiming the forward’s ‘left posterior cruciate ligament is at its limit’.

Mbappe’s entourage believes Madrid are trying to force him back to action, which could consequentially affect his participation at the World Cup.

For the second consecutive season, the 27-year-old has been the Los Blancos best player. He has chipped in with 38 goals and six assists across all competitions.

Madrid need Mbappe to regain full fitness quickly to avoid not winning a major trophy for a second consecutive season.

Raul Arbeloa’s side have been knocked out of the Copa del Rey. They are four points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, and are unlikely to win the Champions League, given their struggles.

Madrid are battling with other fitness concerns ahead of the run-in.

Rodrygo has been ruled out of the season, while Eder Militao and Jude Bellingham remain on the sidelines.

Dean Huijsen, David Alaba, Dani Ceballos, Eder Militao, Alvaro Carreras, and Edouardo Camavinga are all doubts for their league clash at Celta Vigo on Friday.

Franco Mastantuono is also suspended, leaving Arbeloa with a small pool of players for the crucial game at the Balaidos Stadium.
