Real Madrid are set to cool their interest in Manchester City midfielder Rodri, following the signing of former teammate Bernardo Silva.
Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Bernardo when his contract at Manchester City expires next month. The Portugal international is set to sign a two-year contract with the option of a further season.
Jose Mourinho made the signing of the 31-year-old an immediate priority after being appointed as head coach, with Bernardo set to become the club's third signing of the summer, with deals in place for Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries.
The Spanish side are keen to continue their recruitment drive, thoughFabrizio Romano has reported that interest in Rodri has now cooled. The Manchester City midfielder has just 12 months to run on his contract at the Etihad and has been linked with an exit.
Rodri is understood to be open to a return toLa Liga, though recently distanced himself from the transfer speculation. It comes after presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme claimed the club would sign Rodri if he was elected. Riquelme was subsequently beaten in the election by Florentino Perez.
“To be honest, I’ve been keeping a bit of a distance. It’s true that things come up, but in the end, I don’t really know where they’re coming from,” Rodri said toCadena SCR.
“I try to focus on what I have to do now. I understand that it’s part of the game and what we do. Every time your name comes up, we accept it as such, but I haven’t thought about it and I’m not making any decisions.
“My focus is on the World Cup. I’m still under contract with my club, where I think we’ve had a good season. That’s my situation right now.”
Manchester City have tabled a contract offer to Rodri, who will make a decision on whether to extend, or leave on a free transfer in 2027.
