Following a mixed start to the new season, the coming few weeks could serve as an acid test for Carlo Ancelotti as he looks to navigate through a tough set of fixtures ahead.

In addition to facing difficult opponents over the next few weeks, Ancelotti also has to deal with a depleted squad, especially in the defensive unit.

Real Madrid’s results in the coming weeks could go a long way in not only dictating the future of Ancelotti but also the club’s transfer policy in January.

Real Madrid may consider January move for Alexander-Arnold

To that end, a recent report from MARCA has claimed that Real Madrid might consider negotiating a January deal with top target Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The club are expected to make a firm decision in the next few weeks, based on the team’s performance.

It appears Real Madrid want to assess how the team deals with the loss of the injured Dani Carvajal, before making a decision on Alexander-Arnold pursuit.

Should Real Madrid find it difficult to replace Carvajal at right-back, the option of signing the Englishman could be considered.

In such a case, Real Madrid may consider paying Liverpool a particular sum in January in order to sign the defender, whose contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season.

Liverpool, for their part, were hopeful of convincing the right-back to sign a new deal. But they are beginning to think that a renewal might not be a possibility anymore.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, have held multiple talks with Alexandre Arnold’s entourage and the talks are expected to advance further in the coming weeks.

The Spanish champions are also making moves in the pursuit of another top defensive target in Alphonso Davies, despite fresh competition from Manchester United.
