Real Madrid have clinched the LaLiga title after Barcelona fell to a 4-2 defeat against Girona, meaning that Xavi’s side can no longer catch their bitter rivals.

After easing past Cádiz earlier in the day, Los Blancos moved 14 points clear with four games to play, while Barcelona had five.

However, defeat to third placed Girona saw their rivals leapfrog them into second, and means that it is now mathematically impossible for any side to catch Real Madrid.

It confirms their 36th Spanish top flight success, nine more than next best Barça.

It also represents their third success in five years, and with Jude Bellingham only likely to improve and Kylian Mbappé and Endrick both seemingly set to arrive this summer, it could usher in another golden age in the Spanish capital.

Though they cannot reach the record 100 point mark, they could yet complete a double, with Los Blancos vying with Bayern for a place in the Champions League final this week.

They will not be allowed to celebrate their title win until that game has been decided.
