Real Madrid’s recruitment team are closely monitoring midfield talent across the Premier League, with Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez both “firmly” on their list of potential signings, according to Caught Offside.

The Spanish giants are planning further reinforcement in midfield under Xabi Alonso, who is reshaping the squad he inherited at the Bernabéu. Having missed out on Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi, Alonso is keen to identify players who can replicate that blend of control, energy and tactical intelligence.

A leading industry source told Caught Offside: “Real Madrid hold an interest in Alexis Mac Allister. Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace, and AZ Alkmaar’s rising talent Kees Smit are all also firmly on Madrid’s radar.”
Both Liverpool and Chelsea are likely to resist any approaches for their prized midfielders. Mac Allister has been a consistent performer for Liverpool since his arrival, and his tactical adaptability under Arne Slot has made him indispensable.

Chelsea, meanwhile, view Fernandez as a long-term cornerstone of their rebuild under Enzo Maresca. Having invested heavily in the Argentine and his midfield partner Moises Caicedo, the Blues are not expected to entertain offers unless a bid arrives that exceeds £100 million.

The report also notes that Madrid could revisit their interest in Caicedo, who is viewed as a potential alternative to Aurelien Tchouameni should Alonso seek a more physical option.

Real Madrid’s pursuit reflects a broader shift in their strategy, with Alonso eager to build a dynamic midfield that mirrors his own playing style. Wharton of Crystal Palace could be the most attainable option given Palace’s history of eventually selling their top young talent, as seen with Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze.

Still, any move for Mac Allister or Fernandez would require a substantial financial outlay, and both Premier League clubs remain confident of keeping their midfield anchors.
For Liverpool fans, this report highlights the inevitable attention that comes with success. Mac Allister has settled brilliantly, offering calmness and precision in midfield that Slot’s system depends on. Losing him would feel like a step backwards, both technically and symbolically. However, fans will take comfort knowing that Liverpool rarely sell key players unless the timing suits them, and his contract gives the club full control.
Chelsea supporters will view this situation with similar resolve but also quiet concern. Fernandez has endured ups and downs since his British-record transfer, yet he remains central to Maresca’s project. His work rate and quality in possession continue to draw admiration across Europe.
For both clubs, Real Madrid’s interest reaffirms the value of their midfield projects. Yet Madrid’s ability to unsettle players with prestige and Champions League pedigree cannot be underestimated. The coming transfer windows could test the resolve of Liverpool and Chelsea, but supporters on both sides will expect their clubs to stand firm against Madrid’s advances.
