TV coverage of Real Madrid’s match with Benfica showed a home supporter making a Nazi salute, and the club later announced his expulsion from the Santiago Bernabéu.

The following day, the fan, Antonio Gálvez from Huelva, who travels to Madrid for every game and belongs to the La Clásica supporters’ group within the Grada de Animación, offered an explanation in a video published by EsDiario.

He apologised while saying he did not know why, and sought to distance himself from Nazism by citing his personal life. He said he has two adopted black people, Kalu and Abdu, and that a gay man officiated his wedding, even referring to himself in the third person as el Toni.

He added that he cross-dresses, owns six flamenco dresses and wears lipstick, and that he is keen for El Rocío to arrive so he can celebrate with his gay friends.

He also said that, until the previous day, he thought the term meant a gin brand. Explaining the gesture, he claimed he often waves his arms at football, sometimes touches his crotch or backside, and that during the Benfica game he happened to repeat the motion twice.

Gálvez said his conscience is clear. He plans to speak to the club, argued he will be thrown out because someone has to pay, and described himself as the village idiot.
