Real Madrid fear missing out on top target despite Mbappe attempting to woo player – report | OneFootball

Amid all the talk of Ibrahima Konate joining Real Madrid for free next summer, it appears the club are equally keen on the services of William Saliba.

The Merengues have been tracking the Arsenal defender for a while and were even linked with a move for him in the summer.

However, a move did not materialise due to Arsenal’s determination to keep hold of the defender, who has a contract until 2027.

Real Madrid fear missing out on Saliba

A recent report from Le Journal du Real suggests Real Madrid are worried that Saliba may not join the club, at least in the near term.

The club believe Saliba might sign a contract extension at Arsenal, which would further lengthen the duration of his current contract at Emirates.

Real Madrid really like the player and rate him highly. Saliba, after all, is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and could be an excellent long-term defensive partner for someone like Dean Huijsen.

The Spanish giants are also aware of the fact that the Frenchman wants to play for the club one day. But that day might not come soon if he extends his contract at Arsenal.

Mbappe working on the deal

The report adds that Kylian Mbappe, Saliba’s teammate in the French national team, is working closely with Real Madrid to secure his services.

It appears Mbappe and ‘his clan’ are trying to convince the Arsenal star to make the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.

People close to Mbappe, in fact, are sending messages to Saliba, stating that he would be welcomed with open arms at the Bernabeu.

As captain of the French national team, Mbappe wields a lot of influence within the French footballing fraternity. But whether or not Real Madrid’s attempt to woo the player using the former PSG star works remains to be seen.
