Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has returned to the Spanish capital with an ankle injury, after playing for Franced on Thursday night. The 26-year-old forward also missed game time during the last international break through injury.
Les Bleus secured their place at the World Cup in 2026 in the United States, Mexico and Canada with a 4-0 win over Ukraine at the Parc des Princes in Paris. Mbappe was heavily involved, opening the scoring in the 55th minute from the penalty spot, scoring the third and assisting the fourth, as he played the full match.
However the France Football Federation (via Marca) have announced that Mbappe has left the France camp to return to Madrid due to an injury, after suffering inflammation in his right ankle. He will undergo further tests with Real Madrid to understand the extent of Mbappe’s issues. It is worth noting that Mbappe did not participate in France’s second international fixture in October due to the same issue.

It will no doubt please Real Madrid that Mbappe will not undertake the long trip to Baku to face Azerbaijan on Sunday. However if Mbappe has sustained a more serious issue, then they will lose their player of the season so far. Mbappe has played every match under Xabi Alonso this season, scoring in all but four of those sixteen games.
With 18 goals and two assists, losing Mbappe for any amount of time would be a problem for Los Blancos, as his contributions represent 59% of Real Madrid’s total goals this season. After the international break, Real Madrid travel to face Elche, Olympiakos in the Champions League, Girona and Athletic Club in a run of four straight away games. Eduardo Camavinga also returned from the France camp on Thursday with an injury.
