Federico Valverde’s late goal against Athletic Club was all that separated the two teams in their La Liga matchup last night. The Uruguayan’s goal arrived just when it appeared that Los Blancos would surely drop points and thus reignited their title hopes.
It was, however, an extra-special night for Vinicius Jr who saw his 200th win as a Real Madrid player courtesy of Valverde’s late goal at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Brazilian was brilliant against the Basque outfit and was one of the team’s better players in the final third. He racked up six key passes on the night and created one big chance.

Speaking to the media earlier today, the Real Madrid star opened up about his latest milestone and a series of other topics about his current season.
He began by explaining how it is a dream for him to stay at Real Madrid for the years to come and how he pushed himself to stay at his best week in and week out.
“I have to continue like this because I want to stay here for a long time, and I hope I can continue making history. I want to go down in the history of Real Madrid and be one of the greats.”
He then touched upon the achievement he unlocked on the night – 200 wins with Real Madrid and spoke on what it meant to him.
“I’m very happy with this result. I hope to achieve more victories. We have important matches in a few days, and we have the challenge of winning titles. It is a source of pride and motivation for us.”
Vinicius Jr has slowly worked his way up the manager’s pecking order at Real Madrid and is now one of the best players in the world. Speaking on his evolution and the level he is currently at, he said,
“I’ve reached this level thanks to a lot of hard work, a lot of sacrifices, and the help of everyone at this club – the coaches, the president, and the players.”
“I have to continue like this because I want to stay here for a long time, and I hope I can continue making history,” he added.
The next question was directed towards unveiling the keys to his success at the Spanish capital and the Brazilian attributed it largely to his work on a personal level and the dynamic with the team.
“Almost everything: working with the team, my personal work at home, every day at Valdebebas, and the sacrifices we make to achieve everything that awaits us.”
“In fact, I want to continue in this way, and I hope to continue writing history,” he added.
Playing at Real Madrid is up there as one of the most difficult tasks in the sport, especially given the pressure and media attention that arrives naturally for the club.
“It’s normal when you arrive at such a big club at such a young age, that you learn how to deal with pressure as quickly as possible. I arrived at a very young age, and I learned over time,” Vinicius began on his adaptation.
“Today I am 24 years old. I have spent almost seven years with this team, during which I achieved 200 wins and played many matches,” he added.
Finally, the winger was asked to speak on what the road forward with Real Madrid holds, to which he said,
“We have to keep working, keep winning, and keep doing what we’re doing, which is winning everything with this shirt. This is history, and I want to go down in history and be one of the greats.”
