Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr has been under heavy criticism in recent months. Once considered a strong candidate for the Ballon d’Or, his performances have dipped since the second half of last season.

The concern for Madrid fans now is not only his overall form but also his worrying lack of goals in away games.

As per MARCA, the Brazilian’s last goal away from home in La Liga came back on October 10, 2024, against Celta Vigo at Balaidos.

Since then, he has gone 10 league matches without finding the net away from home.

Brief look at the stats

Looking back at last season, Vinicius scored just three goals in 14 away matches.

All of those came early on, including a penalty against Las Palmas in August, another penalty against Real Sociedad in September, and one more against Celta Vigo.

By comparison, he managed six away goals the previous season, showing a clear decline.

Kylian Mbappe has been the main source of goals for Madrid during this period.

His 31 goals were almost evenly split between home and away matches, highlighting the contrast with Vinicius, who has not been able to deliver consistently outside the Bernabéu.

Struggling to make an impact

What makes this situation more concerning is that Vinicius is not just failing to score, but also failing to influence games as he once did.

His pace, dribbling, and ability to change matches have not been on display for months. This was especially clear in the recent defeat to Osasuna, where he struggled in his duels with Boyomo.

Vinicius has never played in Oviedo since arriving in Spain in 2018, but the upcoming game could be a chance for him to break his unwanted streak.

In La Liga, it once took him 31 matches away from home to get his first goal, which came against Levante in October 2020. He later went on a 15-game run without scoring away, his second-worst streak.

If he fails to score against Real Oviedo, Vinicius will match his third-longest drought of 11 away league games without a goal, stretching from August 2022 to April 2023.

Madrid fans will be hoping history does not repeat itself tonight.
