Real Madrid ‘have changed their stance’ on transfer deal following World Cup | OneFootball

La Liga giants Real Madrid have done a complete 180 on their stance on the potential signing of Manchester City star Rodri.

This comes amid confirmation on the part of some of the most reliable sources in the European media that Los Blancos are now actively working on a deal for the 30-year-old.

Bernabéu insider Mario Cortegana is one such source, with the Spaniard having revealed that the key factor in the wheels being set in motion is a complete change in stance on the part of Florentino Pérez and co.

As per The Athletic:

‘Madrid sources had kept insisting this summer that Rodri was not part of their plans, but the club’s stance has changed following his return from the World Cup, with the performance level he demonstrated and the role he played in Spain’s triumph a factor in their decision to pursue him.’

Negotiations, in turn, have been kickstarted with intermediaries in an effort to get the transfer up and running.

Rodri’s Manchester City contract terms are due to expire in 12 months’ time, with the Ballon d’Or winner’s eagerness to return to La Liga having given rise to ‘confidence’ in the Bernabéu boardroom.

So confident are Real Madrid in their chances of striking a deal, in fact, that they ‘are operating on the basis that Rodri will be joining the club this summer’.
