While the 2026 FIFA World Cup is underway, Jose Mourinho is already shaping Real Madrid’s squad for the future.

Los Blancos announced the signing of Marc Cucurella earlier today, while deals have also been secured for Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Bernardo Silva as well.

Another centre-back is expected to arrive, while the Portuguese manager also wants to rope in a central midfielder.

Felix Nmecha on Mourinho’s radar

In that regard, Sky Germany reports that one player who has caught the Real Madrid new manager’s attention is Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha.

Indeed, Mourinho is a strong admirer of the 25-year-old and has already made enquiries about his situation at Dortmund.

Strengthening the midfield is one of Real Madrid’s priorities for the summer, and Nmecha has emerged as a player who fits the profile Mourinho is looking for.

The German international has developed into one of Borussia Dortmund’s most important players and is attracting interest from several elite clubs.

Alongside Real Madrid, both Manchester United and Manchester City are said to be monitoring his situation closely. However, any move would be far from straightforward.

Dortmund under no pressure to sell

Borussia Dortmund are under no pressure to sell. In March, Nmecha signed a contract extension that ties him to the club until 2030, significantly strengthening the Bundesliga giants’ negotiating position.

The midfielder also has a release clause, but it does not become active until 2027. When that clause comes into effect, Nmecha will be available for a fixed fee of €70 million.

Until then, Dortmund retain complete control over the 25-year-old midfielder’s future. And, as things stand, the Bundesliga club have no plans to part ways with one of their key players this summer.

Club officials see Nmecha as a central figure in their long-term project and expect him to remain an important part of the squad next season. Only an extraordinary offer would be enough to make Dortmund consider entering negotiations.

The challenge for Real Madrid is clear: Dortmund have no intention of selling, the player is tied to a long-term contract, and interest from Premier League rivals could drive the price even higher.
