Real Madrid were eliminated from the Champions League after losing their quarter-final tie 6-4 on aggregate to Bayern Munich

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Madrid made a stunning comeback at the Allianz Arena, scoring three goals in a breathless first half.

But their efforts went in vain, as Luis Diaz and Michael Olise struck late on following Eduardo Camavinga’s dismissal to seal Bayern’s progress to the semi-final.

Wednesday night’s result means Los Blancos are almost certain to end the season without a major trophy.

According to The Athletic, Madrid are expected to part company with manager Alvaro Arbeloa.

The Spaniard will likely see out the season, as bringing in a new boss with little at stake doesn’t make sense.

Xabi Alonso was in charge when Real started the campaign. They were five points clear at the top of the La Liga standings after just 10 games under Alonso.

A difficult run of form soon followed, and the former midfielder resigned as manager after losing to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup in January.

Arbeloa replaced Alonso and began his tenure with a Copa del Rey defeat to Albacete.

The 43-year-old has recorded 13 wins and seven losses from 21 games in charge.
