Loans, transfers with buy-back options, first-refusal rights, and future sale percentages – year after year, these are the mechanisms Real Madrid employ to make the most of talent emerging from La Fabrica.

The Spanish capital giants prioritise maintaining control over academy graduates, ensuring a possible return to the first team if they prove ready to compete for all major titles, something only a select few achieve.

Now, as we enter the final phase of the 2024/25 season, Real Madrid must decide on the future of many players under their control – one of whom happens to be AC Milan right-back Alex Jimenez.

According to MARCA, Real Madrid have always recognised Alex Jimenez’s potential as a first-team player. However, inconsistency has held him back.

Since joining AC Milan, the right-back has shown more focus, especially under new manager Sergio Conceicao.

Initially loaned to the Rossoneri during the 2023/24 season, he was permanently transferred last summer for €5 million – a record fee for a Castilla player with only seven appearances.

Real Madrid retain buy-back, first-refusal, and future resale rights for Jimenez, securing major control over his future even though he was no longer at the club.

AC Milan are eager to acquire full ownership, but those at Valdebebas remain aware of his development. His involvement in 13 of Milan’s last 14 Serie A matches strengthens his case for either a return or a lucrative future transfer.

No decision has been made yet, but Real Madrid remain attentive to his progress in Italy, much like the situation with Nico Paz, who is thriving at Como.

Only time will tell whether Jimenez’s performances are deemed impressive enough for him to be brought back to Real Madrid, although it must be noted that Los Blancos are planning to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer to strengthen their right-back position.
