Real Madrid find themselves at a crossroads regarding their left-back options as they enter the summer transfer window.

The futures of Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia hang in the balance. Madrid are reportedly not keen on awarding Mendy a new contract, while Fran Garcia is also not considered a crucial asset for coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Amidst this backdrop of uncertainty, Miguel Gutierrez has emerged as a potential signing.

Having left Real Madrid for Girona in the summer of 2022 for a meagre fee of €4 million, a return to his boyhood club is on the cards.

Madrid contemplates Miguel’s return

According to MARCA Miguel Gutierrez’s future hinges on Real Madrid’s decision-making this summer.

Real Madrid, retaining 50% of his rights and a summer buy-back option, could bring him back for just €8 million, which is considered a steal given his stellar performance during Girona’s remarkable campaign.

However, if Los Blancos opt to not activate the clause, they retain a future option in 2025 for a discounted fee of €6 million.

As of now, Gutierrez’s future is uncertain. If Real Madrid sign Alphonso Davies and retain Mendy, and Garcia in the squad, his return this summer would be ruled out unlikely, potentially delaying until the following year.

Gutierrez and Girona are waiting for Real Madrid’s call to decide their next move. Although it remains to be seen if the youngster returns this summer, the Spaniard’s continuity at Montilivi appears distant.

After all, the 22-year-old full-back’s standout season, highlighted by nine assists and two goals, has drawn interest from top European clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United.

One possibility would be for Real Madrid to re-sign Gutierrez before selling him to a different club like United, who are on the lookout for a left-back.

On the other hand, the Merengues can let him continue at Girona and play Champions League football, before considering re-signing him in 2025.
