Real Madrid Eye Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch amid Alonso Influence

Liverpool’s midfield maestro Ryan Gravenberch is the latest name linked with Real Madrid, according to a report from Spain. Fichajes claim that Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has told president Florentino Perez to make the 23-year-old a priority signing, with the Dutchman valued at €75m.

Madrid’s admiration for Liverpool stars has been clear in recent windows. Trent Alexander-Arnold made the switch to the Bernabeu in 2025, while Ibrahima Konate and Alexis Mac Allister have also been strongly linked. This time, though, the spotlight falls on Gravenberch, a player who has flourished under Arne Slot.

Gravenberch’s Rise Under Slot

Since arriving from Bayern Munich in 2023, Gravenberch’s development has been remarkable. He featured heavily last season, registering four assists across 37 league games and playing a vital role in Liverpool’s Premier League title triumph. His influence has continued this campaign with one goal and one assist in just four matches.

Fichajes describe him as Alonso’s “new wish for Real Madrid” with the vision of forming a midfield partnership alongside Aurelien Tchouameni. Such high praise reflects the strides he has taken under Slot’s guidance.

What his Agent has Said

Adding intrigue to the story are past comments from Gravenberch’s agent Jose Fortes. Speaking to Marca earlier this year, Fortes revealed long-standing admiration for Los Blancos.

“When Ryan was 16, Barça called us. They wanted to sign him, but his father and I prioritised his development. At Ajax, he was able to develop in a way that he possibly wouldn’t have at Barca.”

Fortes went further, saying: “He’s good enough for Real Madrid. We would love for him to play for them, but Liverpool would ask for a lot of money. I know they’ve had their eye on him, but now it’s impossible.”

These words underline the challenge Madrid face. Liverpool have the midfielder under contract until 2028 and are in no mood to sell. The Reds, buoyed by last season’s title, are intent on building rather than dismantling.

Madrid’s Midfield Options

While Alonso may be keen, Madrid are hardly short in central areas. Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, Dani Ceballos and Arda Guler provide considerable depth. The urgency for Madrid to move on Gravenberch is therefore questionable, yet history shows their ability to wait patiently before making their move.

For now, Liverpool supporters will hope the Dutchman’s focus remains on Anfield, where he has become a cornerstone of Slot’s exciting side. With the club defending their crown and sitting top of the league after four games, keeping hold of key players like Gravenberch will be essential if they are to sustain momentum.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

As a Liverpool fan, reading this report sets alarm bells ringing. Ryan Gravenberch has quickly become a fan favourite, not just because of his energy and creativity, but also because of how seamlessly he has adapted to the demands of Arne Slot. After winning the league in his first season and starting the new campaign perfectly, it feels like we finally have a team capable of dominating again.

Hearing that Xabi Alonso, a club legend, wants Gravenberch at Real Madrid is hard to take. Madrid’s track record of poaching our best players in recent years is a worrying trend. Losing Trent was painful enough, and the thought of Konate leaving adds to the anxiety. Gravenberch, though, feels like a player we cannot afford to let go under any circumstances.

His agent’s comments do not help. While he admitted it was “impossible” for Madrid to land him earlier this year, football moves quickly. If Gravenberch himself is tempted, Liverpool will face a battle. The club’s hierarchy need to make him feel as valued as possible, both financially and in terms of role within the project.

Madrid may not have an urgent need now, but we know how they operate. They circle and wait. For Liverpool, the challenge is to ensure Gravenberch becomes part of the long-term core, just like Steven Gerrard was. This team under Slot feels like it is building something special, and losing a star midfielder so soon could undo that progress.
