In the wake of this hard-fought triumph, club president Florentino Perez has rewarded the squad handsomely.

According to COPE, each Real Madrid player received a €250,000 bonus for knocking out their city rivals, which serves as a clear indicator that the club were determined to get the better of Atleti at any cost.

It is also a sign of animosity between the two clubs, which has only grown ever since the Jesus Fortea incident and the breach of the non-aggression pact by Los Blancos.

Real Madrid, though, haven’t had much luck against Atletico Madrid in La Liga this season, with the reigning Spanish champions playing out a 1-1 draw in both the Madrid derbies so far.

In light of these results, the La Liga title race remains poised with Barcelona leading the table with 60 points on the board, despite playing a one fewer game than Real Madrid.

As far as the Champions League is concerned, Real Madrid have booked their place in the quarterfinal of the competition, where they will take on Arsenal.
